Manhasset 7, Cold Spring Harbor 6
A battle of defending state champions last night was a physical slugfest with the Indians coming out on top, 7-6. Patrick Arnold led Manhasset with two goals and two assists and teammate Daniel Kolin finished with two goals and an assist. Matt Im finished with ten saves in goal for visiting Manhasset (2-0). Junior Alex Bauer led Cold Spring Harbor with three tallies.
The Indians opened the scoring with a man-up tally by Luca Petruccelli from Arnold at the 9:50 mark of the first quarter. On the ensuing faceoff, the Seahawks commited a foul that gave Manhasset another man-up opportunity. Michael Mondiello found Arnold alone on the left wing and his low liner gave the Indians a quick 2-0 lead. Alex Bauer quickly answered for Cold Spring Harbor with an unassisted goal with 8:56 left in the first.
With just over a minute gone in the second quarter, senior Andrew Mazzei scored an unassisted goal of a loose ball to tie the game for the Seahawks. Mondiello answered for Manhasset with big righthander with time and room that was created by a nifty dodge and throwback pass by Petruccelli. The score remained 3-2 in favor of Manhasset throughout the second quarter mainly thanks to several great saves by Im, who finished with six saves in the half.
Jared Beschel scored at the 10:22 mark of the third to extend the Indians lead. His shot, off a feed from Daniel Kolin, deflected off a Seahawks player in front of the goal and spun past goalie James Grego. Arnold found Kolin just over a minute later for another Manhasset tally. The teams traded possessions until Ryan McGloin scored an unassissted goal for Cold Spring Harbor with 5:42 left in the third. Arnold scored again, this time off a ground ball to give Manhasset a three goal advantage again at the 3:46 mark in the period.
In the fourth, Bauer scored a goal on a two man-up situation and he talied another goal less than a minute later on a tough individual effort to shorten the Manhasset lead to one. Kolin tallied an unassisted goal after a failed Seahawks clear which would prove to be the game winner with 4:16 remaining. Sam Bruno scored with three seconds left for Cold Spring Harbor off a pass from Ryan McGloin to close out the scoring.
