2024 SEASON PREVIEW PART FOUR: CLASS C AND D
Nassau Class C lacrosse in 2024 has a different look to it with defending state champion Manhasset moving up to Class B. Joining the Indians are a senior-laden South Side team and a Carey squad that looks to be much improved. 2024 SEASON PREVIEW PART ONE: SEEDING
With the start of the 2024 season just a week away, it's the perfect time for a preview of the upcoming campaign. This spring boys lacrosse in Nassau County will have a different league/conference alignment for the first time in several years with the creation of a select power conference. 
LOOKING BACK AT THE 2023 SEASON
2023 was a banner year for lacrosse in Nassau County with fifty-one teams competing with over 1,745 athletes on varsity rosters. There were 429 regular season games played and the 199 conference games determined the regular season champions. Farmingdale (Class A), Garden City (Class B), and Manhasset (Class C/D) each finished on top with 8-0 records in conference play. 
The Origins of Nassau County Lacrosse
The origins of scholastic lacrosse on Long Island can be found in New York City with the Public School Athletic League (PSAL). The PSAL was formed thanks to the work of Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick by the New York City Board of Education in 1903.

Nassau County (Section VIII) boys lacrosse teams captured three New York State championships this spring, winning in the B, C, and D classifications
A Nassau Sweep At The Long Island Championships
All four Nassau County teams won their respective classifications yesterday at the 2023 Long Island Lacrosse Championships held at Stony Brook University.

Manhasset Claims Third Straight Nassau C Crown
Top seeded Manhasset (18-1) defeated Wantagh 15-9 to earn their third straight Nassau Class C championship today at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Faceoff wizard Cal Girard was named game MVP after winning 21 of 24 faceoffs for the Indians, the defending NYS Class C champions. 
Cold Spring Harbor Repeats As Class D Champion
Top seeded Cold Spring Harbor overwhelmed #2 Friends Academy, 14-1, to win the Seahawks second consecutive Nassau Class D championship last night at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Hayden Calabretta earned championship game MVP honors by tallying five points by way of three goals and two assists for Cold Spring Harbor (12-6). 
Garden City Wins 3rd Straight Class B Championship
Carson Kraus scored the winning goal off a feed from Stevie Finnell with 1:48 left to play to lead Garden City (15-4) over a tough Calhoun squad, 7-6, in the Nassau Class B Championship game. For the Trojans it is their third consecutive Class B championship and 28th overall Nassau championship in school history. 
Farmingdale Takes Class A Championship
Top seeded Farmingdale (16-3) defeated Port Washington by the score of 11-3 to win the Nassau Class A championship. For Farmingdale, it is their 14th Nassau title and the first since 2011. The Vikings (13-5) were the #2 seed in the Class A tournament and were the defending champions. 
Class C Semifinals: Manhasset and Wantagh Advance
Manhasset 15, Lynbrook 5: Top seeded and defending Class C state champion Manhasset improved their record to 17-1 with a 15-5 win over #5 seeded Lynbrook in the Nassau Class C semifinals. Liam Connor and Jack Petersen each had three goals and three assists and Cal Girard won 14 of 16 faceoffs and added a goal for the Indians. 
Class B Final Is Set: Trojans vs. Colts
Garden City 7, Long Beach 2: Top seeded Garden City (14-4) defeated #5 Long Beach (10-8) by the score of 7-2 in the semifinal round of the Nassau Class B playoffs played last night at Hofstra's Shuart Stadium. Carson Kraus scored three goals to lead the Trojans and teammate Jack Archer had a goal and two assists.

Port Washington 8, Massapequa 7: #2 seed Port Washington defeated #3 Massapequa in the Nassau Class A Semifinals at Hofstra University last night. The Vikings (13-4) used a 4-1 third quarter to propel themselves to the win and were led by attackman Chase Pastalove who had three goals and one assist. 
Class C Quarterfinal Results
Manhasset 14, Bethpage 1: Top seeded Manhasset (16-1) defeated #8 Bethpage 14-1 in the quarterfinal round of the Nassau Class C playoffs. Cal Girard won 14 of 17 faceoffs and Liam Connor scored four goals with two assists to lead the Indians, who had nine different goal scorers.

Nassau Class B Quarterfinal Results
Garden City 15, Bellmore JFK 0: Top seeded Garden City (13-4) was led by Andrew Ottomanelli (2g-3a) in the Trojans 15-0 rout of #9 seed Bellmore Kennedy in the quarterfinal round of the Class B playoffs. Twelve players scored goals for Garden City and nine of their tallies were assisted. 
Nassau Class A Quarterfinal Results
Farmingdale 18, Plainview JFK 2: Top seeded Farmingdale scored ten first quarter goals en route to a 18-2 win over #8 Plainview JFK in the quarterfinal round of the Nassau Class A playoffs. Jake Norton had five points (2g-3a), all the first quarter, to lead all scorers as Farmingdale had thirteen different players score a goal in the contest. 8. [ BOX SCORE
Tuesday: Final Games in Conferences B and C/D For the 2023 Season
Garden City 16, Bellmore JFK 1: Henry Gibbons had three goals and two assists to lead Garden City (12-4) over Bellmore JFK in Conference B. Andrew Ottomanelli had two goals and two assists for the Trojans.  Bellmore JFK (8-8) goaltender Benjamin Greco made 19 saves in the loss, giving him 227 for the season (14.2 per game). 
Monday: Oyster Bay Gets School-Record 11th Victory, Manhasset Finishes Undefeated In Conference C/D Play
Friends Academy 17, Lawrence 6: Will Bystrom had five goals and an assist for Friends Academy (10-6) and teammate Cooper Schultz had two goals and six assists. Kody Kirchner had a goal and three assists for Lawrence (5-11) and Amari Elliott made 14 saves in goal

Oceanside 18, Baldwin 8: Michael Madden (4g-3a), Andrew Piccola (3g-2a), Nicky Cairo (2g-3a) and Andrew Greco (2g-2a) were the offensive stars for Oceanside (8-6) in Conference A. 
Friday: Port Rallies to Defeat Syosset in Conference A
Port Washington 8, Syosset 7: Down 5-1 at halftime, Port Washington outscored Syosset 6-1 in the third quarter to take a 7-6 lead into the final period. Each team tallied one goal in the fourth, which enabled the Vikings (10-4) to earn a hard-fought, comeback victory over Syosset (10-6) in Conference A
Manhasset Remains Undefeated In Conference C/D
Manhasset 17, Wantagh 10: The Indians improved to 14-0 with a 17-10 win over Wantagh in Conference C/D. Cal Girard won 21 of 27 faceoffs for Manhasset who were led offensively by Jack Peterson (3g-3a), Aidan Haggerty (5g-1a), and Liam Connor (3g-3a). Manhasset was ranked 5th in the latest USA Lacrosse Magazine National Poll.  Danny Fisenne (3g-2a) and Antony Tsakos (3g-1a) were the leading scorers for Wantagh (10-5)
Wednesday: South Side Tops Calhoun In Conference B Showdown
Twelve games were played on Wednesday in Nassau County, with all the contests conference matchups in A and B. In the most important game played, South Side defeated Calhoun to gain control of second place in Conference B with only two games remaining. Highlights of all the games are as follows
Tuesday: Island Trees Defeats Bethpage
Island Trees 8, Bethpage 7: Luke Forde won 15 of 19 faceoffs and John Echezuria scored three goals to lead Island Trees (8-5) in Conference C/D. It was the first win in school history for Island Trees over Bethpage (6-8)
Results for Monday, May 8th
Mepham 13, Herricks 10: Liam Williams (3g-3a) and Owen Heller (4g-3a) were the offensive leaders for Mepham (6-8) in their non-conference win over Herricks (3-10). The Pirates also recieved strong contributions from Anthony DiSalvo (17 of 26 faceoffs) and Alessandro Walaitis (2g-3a).

Thursday: MacArthur Wins in Non-League
MacArthur led 7-0 after the first quarter and cruised to a 12-3 win over Mepham in non-league. Joe Forcelli led the Generals (6-6) with four goals and one assist. Rocco Hogan, Alex Varga, and Patrick Cheswick each had a goal and an assist, Paul Lichter won 15 of 16 faceoffs, and defenseman Michael Cassano had a goal and two assists. Owen Heller, Mitch Savalli, and Alessandro Walaltis each scored for the Pirates (5-8). 
Wednesday: Farmingdale, Lynbrook Win In Overtime
Lynbrook 8, Seaford 7, OT: Michael Fagen (3g-1a) scored the winner in overtime for Lynbrook (6-6) in Conference C/D. Goaltender Jake Lunati made 16 saves for the Owls. Seaford is 7-6.   [ BOX SCORE

Games To Watch: Week of May 1st
With two and a half weeks left in the regular season, this weeks slate of games is punctuated by several critical conference matchups. Let's look at a few of them
Saturday: Manhasset Wins the 139th Woodstick Classic In Overtime
On the last Saturday in April, playing in the rain was the order of the day. Despit the poor conditions, there were several great games and an overtime thriller in the 139th Woodstick Classic.

Oyster Bay, Hewlett, Plainedge and other wins today
Clarke Defeats Sewanhaka
In the only game played on Thursday, Clarke defeated Sewanhaka, 13-4. Leading the scoring for Clarke (6-3) was Lucas Barsuaskas with five goals and two assists. Gabriel Cobham had two goals and two assists and Justin Somyak had three goals and an assist for the Rams. Sewanhaka is now 0-12. [ BOX SCORE
Wednesday: Wantagh, Bethpage, and Calhoun With Close Wins
Wednesday had a huge slate of eighteen games in Nassau. The results include a come-from-behind win for Wantagh at home against Plainedge, a three overtime game between Bethpage and North Shore, and a tight game between Calhoun and Long Beach. 
Tuesday Results
On Tuesday, Conference C/D took center stage with five games, including wins by Mineola, Seaford, Wheatley/Carle Place, Carey, and Cold Spring Harbor. The remaining contest was a high scoring victory by New Hyde Park in Conference B. 
Monday: Massapequa Tops South Side
The sixth week of the season beagn with nine games, all non-league contests. In the biggest game of the day, Massapequa broke open a close game with visiting South Side by scoring five unanswered goals in the third quarter en route to an 11-5 victory.

The season is moving along very quickly as we in the last week of April! This week features a mix of important conference games and intriguing non-league matchups
Saturday Review
Saturday featued nine games on the schedule with all of the contests of the non-league variety. Both Hicksville and Massapequa lost to out-of-section teams and both Great Neck squads picked up big wins
Full Slate Friday
With fifteen games on tap, this was one of the busiest Friday's of the season so far. Garden City had a big win over Calhoun in Conference B while Syosset edged Cold Spring Harbor in their annual non-league game that, as usual, did not disappoint Nassau lacrosse fans.

Tuesday's results include a number of games played in Conference A and B. 
Monday: Roslyn Moves to 6-0
On Monday Roslyn squeezed by North Shore, 6-5, to remain undefeated at 6-0, while both Locust Valley and Island Trees won their fifth games of the season. 
Late Saturday Update: Wantagh Falls to Mamaroneck
In a game played on Saturday afternoon in Westchester, Wantagh lost to Mamaroneck, 12-11. The Warriors led 8-2 at halftime, but Mamaroneck (3-4) outscored Wantagh 10-3 in the second half to pull off the one goal victory. Antony Tsakos led Wantagh (6-2) with three goals and two assists and Dylan Martini added three goals. The loss snaps the Warriors win streak at six games. 
Saturday Special: Massapequa, Oceanside With Big Wins
Saturday brought numerous non-league contests, including an overtime victory for Oceanside and a win for Massapequa against a Section I opponent.

With the majority of Nassau schools on spring break this week, lacrosse fans will find a mix of conference contests and intriguing non-league games on the schedule. 
Saturday: Manhasset Defeats Darien, Garden City Tops CSH
On Saturday Garden City and Wantaugh won by one goal.

Monday saw Cold Spring Harbor win another other overtime thriller and the Manhasset Indians remain unbeaten. 
Week Three Preview
With Passover and Easter holidays right around the corner, there is a lighter slate of games this week. New York does not allow for competition during  Passover and Easter, so we have no games on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. The busiest days are Tuesday and Saturday with over thirty total games between the two, and many teams are starting conference play this week as well. Here are some interesting matchups this week
Sunday: CSH Avenges only Loss of 2022 and Wantagh Wins

DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - With sixteen games on tap, Wednesday, March 29 was one of the busiest days of the season so far

There were thirty-nine games played since the start of games on March 20th. At the moment there are forty-seven out of county games scheduled and thirteen have been played. Nassau County teams have won six (46%)
Monday: South Side Wins in OT
DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY- South Side (2-0) defeated Port Washington, 10-9, in overtime in a back and forth affair this afternoon. Junior midfielder Cole DiPietro scored four goals, including the game winner in OT. Michael Melkonian won 20 of 23 faceoffs including the pivotal one in overtime. Saturday: 10 Games - Northport over Port Washington
DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY- On a generally rainy day, there were ten games played today. Many were mismatches with the closest game a 10-7 win for Seaford over Herricks. The other winners were Bayport-Blue Point, Northport, Wantagh, Freeport, North Shore, West Hempstead, Lawrence, and Clarke. Oyster Bay had a rare shutout with Jake Panetta and Tyler Rosasco earning the credit
Friday: Lynbrook, Bellmore, CSH Among Winners
DAY IN REVIEW: FRIDAY- There were fifteen games today and there were no reports from several close games. HHH did have a close 10-9 win against Seaford and Bellmore JFK had a 10-8 win against Plainview JFK. Lynbrook had a 6-2 lead at the halftime break, but Oceanside came back with four unanswered goals in the third quarter. Mike Hendrickson (1g) scored the tying goal for Lynbrook and Max Dantona (5g-1a) scored the game winning goal giving Coach Bill Luzzi his first Varsity win as the Lynbrook Lacrosse Head Coach. Cold Spring Harbor won 8-7 in a very close game against Huntington
Thursday: South Side Takes Syosset
DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - With consistent scoring throughout the game South Side took a 4-2 lead at the halftime break and took the 9-5 victory over Syosset. Bryant-bound junior attackman Owen West led the scoring with 3g for the Cyclones. Clarke held off an eight-goal surge by Freeport to take a 13-12 win on the road. Bayport-Blue Point took off in the last quarter with three goals in their 9-8 win at Wantagh. Other winners were Harborfields, Lawrence and Long Beach
Wednesday: Floral Park and W/CP Win
DAY IN REVIEW: WEDNESDAY - There were seven games played today and although three were mismatches, two were won by one or two goals. 
Monday: The Season Begins
DAY IN REVIEW: MONDAY - The 2023 season opened with a win for first year Head Coach Pat Gorman as the Golden Eagles scored ten goals in the first half.

 BLAXEIGHT REPORT:  This week marks the start of interscholastic boys lacrosse competition in Nasssau County. Over thirty-five games will be played this week, with many squads mixing in scrimmages as well.

Monday marked the beginning on the 2023 season and practices are underway throughout Nassau County and all across New York State
2023 Pre-Season Seeding
Listed below are the pre-season seeds for the 2023 season as voted on by the coaches of the NCLCA. The seeding is used to create conference schedules and determine home and away conference games. The teams are grouped in four classifications by the NYSPHSAA and are based on school enrollment data.

NYS Championship Streak Continues

 BLAXEIGHT REPORT:  With victories by three teams on June 11, 2021, Section VIII Boys Lacrosse continued an impressive streak of winning state championships that dates back to 2009. With wins by Garden City in Class B, Manhasset in Class C, and Cold Spring Harbor in Class D, Nassau has had a state champion in twelve consecutive seasons

Bellmore JFK 7, Herricks 5: Ben Greco made 13 saves and held Herricks to one goal over the first three quarters to lead Bellmore JFK to a 7-5 win in the opening round of the Nassau Class B playofs. The Cougars were led offensively by Max Zaransky with two goals and two assists and Joe Battaglia with three goals
Nassau Class C First Round: Bethpage and North Shore Advance
Bethpage 4, Hewlett 3:  Four different players scored a goal for #8 Bethpage in the Golden Eagles 4-3 victory over #9 Hewlett in the first round of the Nassau Class C playoffs. Sean Smith and Bryce Wylie each had a goal and an assist for Bethpage, and goaltender Jake Kelly made 12 saves
