Week Six Review

BLAXEIGHT TEAMS OF THE WEEK

1. MASSAPEQUA CHIEFS (9-3)
The Chiefs went 2-0 defeating Long Beach and rival Farmingdale. Midfielder Matt Pettis led the Chiefs in a dominant second half against the Dalers.

2. MEPHAM PIRATES (7-5)
The Pirates won both their game last week to improve to 7-5. Connor O'Rourke leads the team with 35 points and Breadon Kehoe has been winning nearly 80% of his faceoffs.

3. OCEANSIDE SAILORS (6-5)
With two big wins last week Oceanside seems to have found a scorer in junior Jack Passeullo (22 points) and solid goaltending from Sam Feldbaum (126 saves).

4. SOUTH SIDE CYCLONES (9-3)
The defending NYS Class B champs returned to their cardiac ways last week, defeating both Syosset and Wantagh by 13-12 final scores and coming from behind in both contests. The Cyclones outscored the Braves and Warriors 15-4 in the final quarter and overtime to pull off improbable wins.

BLAXEIGHT PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Joe Filicamo, Island Trees
The senior midfielder headed to LIU had a huge week for the Bulldogs in wins over Roslyn and Hewlett. He totaled seven goals and five assists and had 11 ground balls in the two victories.

Collin Hoisik, Wheatley-Carle Place
The senior attackman totaled 21 points in three games last week. He has a balanced 27 goals and 27 assists this season for the Wildfrogs.

Brett Lipins, Plainview JFK
The junior faceoff midfielder won 45 of his 54 draws last week (83.3%), had 11 ground balls, and a goal and an assist. He currently is second in Nassau with 177 faceoff wins this season for the Hawks.

TOP GAMES FOR THIS WEEK

Tuesday, May 6th, Cold Spring Harbor at Garden City, 5:00 pm
The Seahawks are one of only three Nassau teams (Manhasset and South Side are the others) to have defeated Garden City in the last three years. The Trojans (10-2), coming off a dominant win over Manhasset in the Woodstick Classic, will continue to lean on faceoff star Luke Cascadden to earn extra possessions and create fast breaks. Garden City has won 13 of the 15 all-time meetings between the two teams.

Thursday, May 8th, Friends Academy at New Hyde Park, 5:00 pm
These two teams have been dominating in League 3 this year. New Hyde Park (11-0) is the only undefeated team left in Nassau and Friends (11-1) has outscored opponents 156-54 this spring.

Friday, May 9th, Farmingdale at Port Washington, 5:30 pm
This one should continue to clear up the Class A playoff picture. Port (10-2) plays great defense, allowing only 4.8 goals per game, and is led by senior defender Harry Behan. After falling to Massapequa last Friday, the Dalers (6-6) will look to senior attackman Dean Kott (47 points) to lead the offense against the Vikings stingy defense. Farmingdale leads the all-time series 51-14.

Saturday, May 10th, Somers at Garden City, 5:00 pm
Somers (8-2), one of the best Class C teams in the state, is averaging over 15 goals a game. For beoth teams, this will be their third game of the week, so depth could play a factor and should help Garden City. This is the first meeting between the two programs.

Saturday, May 10th, Manhasset at Chaminade, 3:00 pm
The annual Regs Rock game, held in honor of Manhasset native and Chaminade alumni Jimmy Regan, will be hosted by the Flyers (12-1) this year. Chaminade is one of the best teams in the country and features top faceoff midfielder Quinn Ball and a host of other D-1 commits. Manhasset will counter with Daniel Kolin, a Navy commit who is having a tremendous senior campaign and has 99 career goals. Chaminade has won 10 of the 17 all-time meetings bewteen these two powerhouse programs.
