Semifinal Preview- Tuesday, May 27th Games
#1 South Side vs. #4 Bethpage
This Year: South 11, Bethpage 6 on April 22nd
All-Time: South Side leads 10-3.
About South Side: The Cyclones are looking to take the Class C championship this season after winning last year in Class B. They are 5-1 in May and are averaging 12 goals per game over those six games. Sophomore Alec Notaro (below) has gotten hot at the faceoff dot, winning nearly 80% of his draws in May, while fellow sophomore Luke Mullin (50g-21a-71 pts) has teamed with senior Cullen Lynch (40g-22a-62 pts) to give South Side one of the top scoring combos in Nassau.

About Bethpage: The Golden Eagles are in the semifinals for the second year in a row. Senior attackman Andrew Reinhardt (40g-25a-65 pts) leads the team in every offensive catagory and classmate Leo Cataldo (221 faceoff wins, 70%) gives Bethpage an elite player at the faceoff X. Defender Luke Waxer (below right), a junior, is one of the most impactful players in Nassau. He has 18 points, 105 ground balls, and 70 caused turnovers this year! Bethpage has won seven of their last eight games, allowing less than six goals a game in the seven victories.

Matchup to Watch: Alec Notaro vs. Leo Cataldo at the faceoff X. In the earlier meeting this year, Cataldo won 13 of 21 and scored a goal.
Class A
#1 Massapequa vs. #4 Syosset
This Year: Massapequa 12, Syosset 10 on May 16th.
All-Time: Massapequa leads 45-15.
About Massapequa: The Chiefs (13-4) seem to be returning to their form of the last decade when they won NYS titles in 2014 and 2019. Averaging over 11 goals a game, the Chiefs feature a powerful attack, but senior midfielder Matt Pettis (16g-12a-28 pts) is a two-way force that creates havoc all over the field. Senior goaltender Michael Jannotte has been outstanding as well with a 64% save percentage and 13 saves per game.
About Syosset: Syosset (9-8), led by veteran coach John Calabria (287 wins), has four of their last five games, with the only loss to Massapequa a couple of weeks ago. Junior attackman Brody Waxer has scored 25 of his 36 goals in May, and his experience (213 career points) will be needed for Syosset to overcome the Chiefs. Senior defender William Cawley has led the defense all season with 35 caused turnovers.
Matchup to Watch: With all eyes on Waxer, the matchup of junior attackman Gio Accardo (46 points) vs Massapequa defenders Justin Farrell (right) or Will Krieg will be important. Accardo scored twice in the matchup during the regular season.
Class B
#1 Garden City vs. #5 Calhoun
This Year: Garden City 15, Calhoun 2 on April 24th.
All-Time: Garden City leads 31-0.
About Garden City: Garden City has been in the semifinals every year since 1985, winning 23 Nassau titles in that span. With faceoff ace Luke Cascadden (78.4%) setting the tone and dominating posessions, Garden City is tough to beat. They allow opponents less than six goals per game. Junior Charlie Koester (74 points) and freshman Ben Smith (54 points) are a great scoring combo for the Trojans (15-2) and sophomore midfielder Anthony Asaro (left, 37 points) is a matchup nightmare.
About Calhoun: The Colts (7-10) have now been semifinalists in three of the last four seasons. Senior Harley Finkelstein (63 points, 201 career points) leads the Calhoun offense, while sophomore Michael Nicholson has been excellent at the FO dot (214 wins, 62%). Junior keeper Nick Greci has made double-digit saves each of his last five games.
Matchup to Watch: If Calhoun is going to have a shot at the upset, Nicholson will have to keep pace with Cascadden at the X. The first time the teams met, Cascadden won 6 of 7 as Garden City built a huge first quarter lead.
