Historical Notes: Ward Melville completed its first undefeated season in school history by downing Manhasset (17-3) at Hofstra Stadium. The Patriots were led by midfielders Rich Wilkins and Keith Hart, who controlled most of the faceoffs, and game MVP Tim Hoppey who led all scorers with four goals. Melville led 9-4 at the start of the fourth quarter, but John Driscoll led an Indians rally that eventually fell short. It was the second Long Island championship in three years for the Patriots (19-0) and Coach Joe Cuozzo.
