Historical Notes: Ward Melville won its first Long Island Championship and the first for Suffolk County since 1965 with a 15-9 win over Massapequa (14-7). Over 2,000 fans at Lindenhurst Junior High School watched the Patriots take a commanding 11-4 halftime lead as Bill Brown scored four first half goals. Ward Melville finished with a record of 22 wins and only one defeat. Patriots senior defender Bob Rotanz was voted the game MVP.
