Saturday: 10 Games - Northport over Port Washington
DAY IN REVIEW: SATURDAY- On a generally rainy day, there were ten games played today. Many were mismatches with the closest game a 10-7 win for Seaford over Herricks. The other winners were Bayport-Blue Point, Northport, Wantagh, Freeport, North Shore, West Hempstead, Lawrence, and Clarke. Oyster Bay had a rare shutout with Jake Panetta and Tyler Rosasco earning the credit.
GREAT NECK SOUTH 5 - FREEPORT 12 - The game was even as both teams scored two goals in the first quarter, but then Freeport scored five goals in second and did not look back. Leading the scoring for Freeport (1-1) were seniors Matthew Drayton (3g-4a), Alec Bastien (3g-1a), and Julian Awalom (1g-1a). In the goal for Freeport was freshman Malik Groover who was credited with 7 saves for the Red Devils who are at Valley Stream on Wednesday.
Great Neck South (0-1) saw action from seniors George Toumbekis (2g-2a), Nate Gorenstein (1g-1a), Peter Hampeas (1g-1a), and Conner Gould (1g-0a). Junior goalie had 11 saves for the Rebels. [BOX SCORE]
HEMPSTEAD 1 - CLARKE 8 - After scoring seven goals in the first half, Clarke held Hempstead scoreless in the second half while adding one for their side. Junior midfielder Lucas Barsuaskas (2g-2a), senior A/M Gabriel Cobham (2g-2a), and junior A/M Joey Kern (2g) led the list of offensive scorers for the Rams (2-0). UNIONDALE 0 - OYSTER BAY 11 - Jagger Romano scored three goals for the Baymen, two of them in a five goal second quarter for Oyster Bay. Joe Gotti, Jake Macri, and Peter Sapienza added two goals each. Goalies Tyler Rosasco and Jake Panetta combined for the shutout.

SEWANHAKA 3 - WEST HEMPSTEAD 9 - Starting the season off strong the West Hempstead Rams were led by Junior midfield Gavin Lee's (4g-2a) and Steven Poirot numerous faceoff wins. "This team is led by a mostly senior defensive class that had a strong defensive game shutting out the opponent in the first half." Dan Clark came up with 5 saves and did an excellent job clearing the ball.
Jalen Brown had 11 saves in the Sewanhaka goal in the hard-fought loss. Steven Ortiz continued his points streak and as a sophomore has emerged as a team leader. Freshmen AJ Ayau got his first goal of his high school career and then followed it up with a second and an assist. "Despite being 0-2 this young Indian squad has proven that no matter what the score they will fight in the second half." The Indians host Great Neck South on Wednesday. [BOX SCORE]
LAWRENCE 7 - ELMONT 4 - It was the first 2-0 start for Lawrence since 2015 as junior attackmen Andy Redzovic had a career game with 6 groundballs. Senior goaltender Amari Elliot recorded 13s/4ga = 76% and was captaining the defense. Seniors Kody Kirchner (3g-2a), Quinn Kerins (3g-1a), Dexter Robinson (1g-3a), and long stick middie Denis Deljanis (1a) made the offensive book for the Golden Tornadoes who are at North Shore on Monday.
Justus Nathaniel anchored the Elmont defense with 7 caused turnovers and 9 ground balls. Seniors Michel Aaron (2a), Kenny Weaver (2g), Dennis D'Kahri (1a), and Alex Williams (1g) along with junior midfielder Tayshaun Powell (1g) made the book for Elmont. NORTH SHORE 10 - WHEATLEY/CARLE PLACE 3 - With even scoring over the four quarters, North Shore took a 5-2 lead at the half and added another five goals in the second for the win. North Shore (1-0) saw scoring from senior attackman Jack Kaufman (2g-4a), junior attackman Matthew D'Aversa (5g-1a), freshman attackman Angelo Anobile (3g), and junior midfielder Sawyer DeSeve (2a). Winning face offs for North Shore was junior Cole Gibstein with 11 of 14. In the goal for North Shore was senior Andrew Fabiilli with 5 saves.
Wheatley/Carle Place (2-1) had scoring from senior midfielder Chris Demicco (2g), junior midfielder Blake Lyons (2a), and junior attackman Dan Webber (1g). Junior goaltender James Demakopoulos was credited with 20 saves. [BOX SCORE]
MASSAPEQUA 7 - BAYPORT-BLUE POINT 16 - In this non-county game at SUNY Maritime, the Phantoms went right to work taking an 8-2 lead at the half after which they scored seven more in the third.
Scoring for Massapequa (0-2) were senior attackman Michael Durnin (3g-2a), senior midfielder Aidan Christie (1g), senior midfielder Patrick Radomski (1g), senior midfielder William Birney (1g), freshman A/M Tyler Byrnes (1g), and sophomore M/A Hunter Gillis (1a). PORT WASHINGTON 7 - NORTHPORT 15 - Port Washington faced a hot goalie in Northport junior goalie Quinn Naploitano who was credited with 20 saves in the 15-7 victory. Seniors Luke Meyer (3g), John McCarthy (2g), and Chase Pastolove (2g) made the offensive book for Vikings who travel to South Side on Monday.
