Historical Notes: West Genesee (Section III) won the New York State championship by stifling Garden City in the second half. The Wildcats were led by John Zulberti's three goals and they finished the season undefeated at 23-0. Junior Andy Kraus won 11 of 17 faceoffs and scored two goals for the Trojans who were appearing in their first state final. Kraus scored with 38 seconds left before halftime to make the score 7-3. But West Genesee shut out Garden City in the second half 3-0 to win the title in a game played before 2,700 fans at Cornell University.
